Dog dies at frozen lake

Fire crews unable to save second dog at Mouldon Hill

There was no happy ending at Mouldon Hill lake at Taw Hill over the weekend, after a dog died following a fall through the ice.

The dog's owners had to be saved after trying to rescue the dog - a west highland terrier - on Saturday evening. The man and the woman were then treated at GWH after suffering effects of the freezing water.

On 03 January, a young labrador was saved by firefighters after a similiar incident but this time the emergency services were unable to help in time.

"Frozen lakes like this are especially dangerous and dogs should be kept on a lead when near them," a spokesman for the Wiltshire Fire Service reiterated.
